Last Wednesday and Thursday, GM Portugal conducted “Opel EcoDrive 2007” with 20 Astra GTC 1.6 Turbo 180 hp being driven by journalists, GTC customers and guests (Day 1) and Opel dealers (Day 2).

The EcoDrive comprised a quite demanding route of 260 km – 20% motorway, 80% normal roads – including driving through several villages in the Alentejo region, between Lisbon and Santarém.
João Rodrigues and Cláudio Delicado (reporters from Quattroruote Portugal) were the Media Event winners, achieving a remarkable fuel consumption average of 4.69 litres/100 km and an average speed of 55.1 km/h. They were closely followed by Bruno Silva and Pedro Domingues (Auto Hoje), who achieved 4.80 l/100. Unfortunately, in last place was Herman De Backer, Managing Director of GM Portugal, co-driven by the company’s Sales Manager, Pedro Lazarino, who achieved 5.78 l/100 at an average speed of 63.7 km/h.
On Day 2, Opel dealers also achieved great results, even managing to improve upon some of the journalists’ best results. The best dealer team reached 4.67 l/100, topping the winner of the previous day.
Participating as guests, João Bravo and Jean-Marc Baudoin, two young university researchers in the area of numeric simulation of fuel consumption of internal combustion engines, ended up as the overall top performers, reaching an extraordinary 4.56 l/100 (average speed: 53.5 km/h) on Day 1.
