Company expands its online media services with a new web site to provide users with a tool to share information and to comment on GM’s products and services.

GM Europe has expanded its online media services with the introduction of a social media newsroom. The site gmeurope.info offers product news for GM’s family of brands in Europe: Cadillac, Corvette, Saab, Hummer, Opel, Vauxhall & Chevrolet.

Photography for reuse online can be downloaded from Flickr under a Creative Commons licence. A link to GM Europe’s video collection in YouTube allows users to comment, rate or embed the video on their site, blog or social network. “Everyone is learning about the value of the social media environment which allows open dialogue, sharing select information with other users and post photos or information to share with friends or select users. Today, there is much more of an opportunity to create a dialogue with the consumer and we are providing our news in a form that makes it easy to republish, comment on and pass along”, said Julie Hamp, vice president Communications for GM Europe.

Each press release has links for easy sharing and tagging with popular social media sites such as Technorati, Digg, del.icio.us and Facebook and each includes a comments area to encourage commentary and opinion from readers.

“We will be making major environmental announcements and introducing concept cars, small cars and exciting premium entries for Opel, Chevrolet and Saab at the upcoming IAA Frankfurt Motorshow September 10 and 11”, Hamp said. “This news will be republished, commented on, shared and tagged by a large community where the boundaries between news provider and news consumer continue to blur. The social media newsroom will help to make this easier to do.”

The social media newsroom, initially available in English, complements GM Europe’s multi-language media sites.
