General Motors Manufacturing Ellesmere Port has been presented with the “EON Energy Award” by the Energy Efficiency Accreditation Scheme (EEAS) for their outstanding work at the plant.
The UK based home of the Vauxhall Astra received accreditation from the EEAS in March 2007, ensuring the plant achieves National recognition for its outstanding work in relation to energy efficiency.
From a total of 74 companies who achieved accreditation during 2007, six were short-listed for the “EON Energy Award” and Ellesmere Port emerged as overall winners at a ceremony held in London during December.
The site was recognised for “reducing absolute energy used and in particular for reducing the amount of energy used to build each car by over 40% over the last three years.”
Site Utilities Manager, Colin Hawthorne said “As a plant we have worked really hard over the last 4-5 years to reduce emissions and use more energy efficient systems across the plant. People Involvement at all levels has been key in achieving the reductions, as has executing our plans effectively and communicating regularly with employees. The award has provided a great sense of pride and achievement at the plant.”
The award topped off a great year for the plant which has seen recognition from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) as well as significant improvements in productivity, quality and cost results.
