From a sleek, electrically powered concept vehicle that makes trips to the gas station a rarity, to a modern, top-down twist on one of America’s favorite muscle cars, design and technology dominate the General Motors exhibit at the 2007 North American International Auto Show, which opens to the public on January 13.

To show off this year’s stunning new production and concept vehicles, the all-new, 121,000-square-foot GM exhibit space – the show’s largest – has been transformed into an art gallery-type setting that complements each of GM’s eight vehicle brands and showcases GM’s intention to reinvent the automobile with technologies that save fuel, reduce emissions and promote energy independence.

“GM has some of the greatest design and technology talent in the industry, and our Detroit lineup this year proves it,” said Mark LaNeve, GM North America vice president, vehicle sales, service and marketing. “If 2006 was about an amazing year of new-product introductions, 2007 is all about momentum.”

Four vehicles will make their world debut in Detroit:

- All-new 2008 Cadillac CTS
- All-new 2008 Chevrolet Malibu
- Chevrolet Volt concept
- Chevrolet Camaro convertible concept

GM’s most electrifying advanced technology vehicle introduction, literally, is the Chevrolet Volt concept, a battery-powered, extended-range electric passenger vehicle that uses a gas engine to create additional electricity, making pit stops practically passé. The technology behind the Volt concept, GM’s E-flex System, allows electricity to be produced from gasoline, ethanol, bio-diesel or hydrogen, helping to provide a global solution to diversifying transportation energy sources.

On Saturday at GM Style, a glitzy convergence of Hollywood ’s brightest stars and 17 GM concept and production vehicles, the Chevrolet Camaro convertible concept was introduced, along with the U.S. premiere of four global concepts that will be on display at the auto show.

Other GM highlights in Detroit are:

- Chevrolet Equinox Sport
- Chevrolet HHR Premiere Edition
- Pontiac G6 GXP
- Pontiac Torrent GXP
- Pontiac GXP.R race car
- Saab BioPower Hybrid concept (first U.S. introduction)
