The two-millionth vehicle, a red three-door Corsa, rolled off the assembly line in the GM plant in Eisenach, Germany, last Friday.
On October 5, 1990, the first Opel car was built in Eisenach. The Vectra was manufactured from a component set supplied by GM's Rüsselsheim plant on an assembly line constructed in cooperation with the former Automobilwerk Eisenach (AWE) company. Some two years later, in September 1992, a newly built plant was inaugurated.
The Eisenach plant played a leading role in the worldwide introduction of the GM production system that focuses on high quality and productivity. Today, the facility builds the successful new Corsa.
