Opel Swing Splashes Into India's Car Market

GM India set a target to sell around 200 Opel Swings per month, but in a three-week span, the Swing seems to be creating a niche for itself. The all-purpose 5-door compact Swing, which was lunched on July 3, 2001, sold already over 200 units within 3 weeks of its arrival in show rooms. Opel Swing is the third offering from GM's stable, joining the much sought after Corsa Royalé and the New Astra Club 2001 that had already set benchmarks in their respective segments.

Commenting on the overwhelming response of the Swing, Rajeev Chaba, Vice President, Marketing said, "Before launching the Swing we conducted an in-depth consumer research, the results of which indicated a latent need for an estate, which sets the consumer apart from the crowd and projects his carefree attitude. The survey marked the genesis of the Opel Swing aimed at addressing that need and the sales figure has now reaffirmed our findings."
