China's auto production surges 8.98 per
cent in July
According to a report from the Asia Pulse, the National Bureau of Statistics
(NBS) said that China produced 57,100 automobiles in July, up 8.98 per
cent from the same period last year.
The NBS said that Shanghai's automobile output increased the most with
26,800 cars, a year-on-year increase of 30 per cent.
Among the highest selling models in China were GM's Buick Sail and the
Passat, manufactured by the Shanghai Volkswagen Corp.
The Asia Pulse noted that a spokesman gave several reasons for the rally.
"Since June, automakers have re-adjusted their production and prices
in line with the market demand, reversing the slump of previous months.
Moreover, domestic demand for automobiles remained bullish, showing the
strong purchasing power of domestic consumers."
