Top awards for Chevrolet Celta and Chevrolet Tracker in Brazil

The Chevrolet Celta and Chevrolet Tracker have won the top honors granted by the Brazilian Automotive Press Association (ABIAUTO). The Chevrolet Celta, earned the "Popular Car of the Year" award while the Chevrolet Tracker earned the "SUV of the Year" award.

For the third consecutive year, thirty-four automotive journalists representing newspapers, magazines, radio and television outlets selected winners in five categories: popular car, SUV, pick-up, domestic vehicle and imported vehicle. The Chevrolet Zafira, Omega and S-10 pick-up, all sales leaders in their segments, made it to the list of finalists.

"When the quality and performance of GM vehicles generate this kind of excitement our team is energized to continue developing the best ones in every class," said Walter Wieland, Managing Director, GM do Brasil (GMB).

The Chevrolet Celta, a three-door subcompact car with a one-liter engine, is the top-selling vehicle in Brazil and considered the most successful launch in GMB's history. Among the winning attributes cited by journalists were its modern design, economy and comfort. The Celta is produced at GM's Gravatai Automotive Complex, among the most efficient in the world. It is sold via Internet, based on the only high-volume Internet business model of the automotive world. More than 70% of all Celta cars are sold via celta.com.br.

The Chevrolet Tracker is a small sports utility vehicle launched in Brazil in February of 2001. It's versatility, superior 4x4 performance and generous options package quickly earned it the top spot in its class and further widened GMB's dominance of the SUV segment. The Tracker is manufactured at GM's Rosario Complex in Argentina and also known throughout South America as the Chevrolet Gran Vitara.
