New Saab 9-5 2.2TiD completes the sporty dynamic 9-5 diesel range

The new Saab 9-5 2.2TiD will substantially increase the Saab's presence in Europe's premium diesel sector. The 2.2TiD is available in both sedan and wagon formats, with a choice of manual or automatic transmission.

Customers shopping for a diesel car with premium quality, refinement and sporty design have a new choice in the new Saab 9-5 2.2TiD.

Delivering a distinctive combination of the sporty characteristics of the Saab 9-5 and sensible running costs, the 2.2TiD is available in both sedan and wagon formats, with a choice of manual or automatic transmission.

The 120 hp 2.2TiD engine with balancer shafts is fitted with a dual-mass flywheel and further improved engine mountings to increase comfort and reduce noise and vibrations. A healthy maximum power of 120 hp is generated at 4,000 rpm but, more importantly, maximum torque, at an impressive 280 Nm, is generated from just 1,500 rpm allowing a swift overtaking.

Combined cycle fuel consumption is 6.7 l/100km and with a large, 75 liter fuel tank, the Saab 9-5 2.2TiD is expected to offer a long distance cruising range approaching 1,400 km. The Saab 9-5 2.2TiD also benefits from service intervals increased to 30,000 km.

The Saab 9-5 2.2TiD will be offered in three equipment levels or 'forms': Linear, Arc and Vector. In many markets the 9-5 2.2TiD will establish an entry point to the Saab 9-5 range. In this way, it is expected to give Saab very strong representation in the highly-competitive fleet sales sector.

The arrival of the 2.2TiD engine will now allow 9-5 diesel customers to specify an automatic transmission for the first time. The new five-speed unit features an adaptive shift pattern, compensating for changing conditions such as high altitude or higher towing loads. The Saab 9-5 2.2TiD will complete the offer in the premium diesel segment in which Saab did enter last summer with the successful launch of the Saab 9-5 3.0TiD 176 hp.
