The first batch of 64 Astras for the Budapest police force and the regional police headquarters was handed over to the police by Sandor Pinter, Minister of the Interior and Jacek Gorski, General Commercial Director of Opel Southeast Europe.
The Minister emphasized that the new Opel vehicles will be important tools in the continuous fight against crime and he added that these cars provide an ergonomic and safe "working environment" for the policemen. Gorski said that the handover of these new Astras is a clear evidence that the police is satisfied with the performance and quality of those Opel vehicles which they have been using for many years.
Since the last big police tender back in 1997-98, when over 900 locally built Astra (Classsic) were sold to the police, this is the biggest deal Opel could make with the Hungarian National Police. The 188 new Astra sold to the Hungarian Police are equipped with ABS and side airbags and all cars will be delivered to the Police still in February.
