King and Queen of Spain visit Opel stand in Madrid

On Friday, May 25, the official opening of Madrid Motor Show, H.M. Juan Carlos I, King of Spain, together with H.M. Sofia, Queen of Spain, visited the Opel Stand and demonstrated great interest in the Opel new model range.


Juan Carlos I and Sofia, King and Queen of Spain, visited the Opel stand on the opening day of the Madrid Motor Show. The royal couple was accompanied by the Minister of Science & Technology, Anna Birules and Opel España Chairman and Managing Director, Juan José Sanz. King Juan Carlos demonstrated a great interest in all the Opel new model range, showing special interest in the Opel Concept M, as well as the basis of the future Opel Meriva that will be produced in the Opel España plant in Figueruelas, Zaragoza, starting in 2003. The naming of the new model was announced by Mr. Sanz in the press conference held the previous day.

Additionally, Juan Carlos I and Sofia, King and Queen of Spain, were interested in the OPC Zafira, as their daughter, Princess Cristina, owned one of these cars. They also showed interest in the new Opel Vectra that was launched to the Spanish market at the same time of the Motor Show and on the Vectra GTS, shown for the first time to the Spanish public.

On 1,900 square meters of show space, Opel, together with Cadillac and Chevrolet, displayed 25 highlights from the model range, including the new Vectra, Concept M and the basis for the future Opel Meriva, as well as 3 Chevrolet vehicles. The Madrid Motor Show 2002 runs from May 25 - June 2 and expects 1,000,000 visitors and 1,400 journalists.
