Opel participates in the historic Klausen Rennen

September 19 – 22, 2002 marks the rebirth of classic racing in an unlikely location – the Swiss Alps! The 3rd Klausen Rennen Memorial Race is a 21.5 km race with classic, pre-war racing cars, sports cars, racing motorcycles and racing three-wheelers. Attracting car enthusiasts from all over the world, the Klausen Rennen is a spectacular exhibition of racing tradition.

It was far and away the best known and most difficult mountain race of its time. No other course in Europe held such strong fascination for spectators and drivers as the 21.5 km gravel road from Linthal to the top of the Klausen Pass. From 1922 to 1934, the best male and female race drivers in the world met annually to face the challenge.

Revived in 1993, the Klausen Rennen experienced a rebirth with more than 400 historic racing cars, sports cars, motorcycles and three-wheelers. The 1998 gathering brought racers from all over Europe to relive the experience.

The 3rd Klausen Rennen Memorial takes place this weekend and has generated tremendous interest among drivers, spectators and the media with its combination of racing, tradition, technology, and culture.

Opel has been linked with the Klausen Rennen since the beginning and historic Opel racing cars have always participated.

This year, Opel will participate with:

- Opel 1914 Grand Prix Racer: a record-setting 260hp 12.3-liter four-cylinder racecar from 1914.
- Opel 1913 Grand Prix Racer: a racing car from 1913. This engineering masterpiece features a four-cylinder engine with 16 valves arranged in V-position and an overhead camshaft with a vertical-shaft drive.
