Signum production starts in January

Opel announces the start of production for the new Signum is slated for January 6, 2003 at the new state-of-the-art Rüsselsheim plant.

With its unique, stretched body design, highly flexible rear seating arrangement, exceptional equipment package and pioneering new technologies, the Opel Signum breaks through conventional segment barriers and opens an entirely new market. This innovative newcomer, to be built at the new plant in Rüsselsheim – the world's most modern automobile plant – will celebrate its debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2003.

The Signum, built on the same line as the Vectra, benefits from the high flexibility of the new plant. The plant, which can build up to four different variants on the same line, will perform trial runs for three days in November and December. Like the Vectra, the production curve of the Signum will rise gradually to ensure the highest quality.

Signum is a combination of stylish appearance, excellent driving dynamics and individual passenger comfort, coupled with unique interior flexibility.

Opel's Chairman and Managing Director Carl-Peter Forster sees this third member of the Vectra family as having an important strategic role to perform: "The Signum is a fine example of the pioneering merits that future Opel products will possess, including dynamic design and a new, versatile interior space utilization concept. With the Signum, as the name implies, Opel is setting a new signal in the automobile world."

Opel plans to produce 70,000 units of the Signum next year.
