Opel Signum is now orderable in Germany
The new Signum, making its world premiere at the 2003 Geneva International Motor Show, breaks through conventional barriers and enters a new market segment for Opel.
This new trendsetter with its long wheelbase and stretched body-style combines an elegant exterior with impressive driving dynamics, interior flexibility and passenger comfort. The new Signum will make its market debut early May and can be ordered in Germany as of today starting at 23,000 Euro*.
The Signum is offered with four gasoline and three diesel engines from the ECOTEC family with power output ranging from 100 to 211 horsepower. Among these are three newly developed units including Opel's first common rail V6 turbo-diesel. This new 3.0-liter engine with 130 kW (177 hp) produces maximum torque of 370 Newton meters.
There are also two new aluminum four-cylinder gasoline engines: the 2.0-liter turbo has 129 kW (175 hp) and develops maximum torque of 265 Newton meters. The 2.2 direct ECOTEC is Opel's first direct injection gasoline unit. This four-valve engine consumes about six percent less fuel than a conventional unit and develops ten percent more torque at low rpm and with 114 kW (155 hp) has a six percent higher power output. The 3.0 V6 common rail diesel unit and the 2.0-liter turbo are both coupled with a newly designed, lightweight, six-speed manual gearbox. An adaptive five-speed automatic transmission with "Active Select" function is also available for a variety of engines.
The entry-level Signum comes with a comprehensive standard equipment package. Comfort and safety features includes electronic climate control, front and rear power windows, keyless entry, full-size front and side airbags, and full size head curtain airbags for front and rear passengers as well as active head restraints for all outer seats. The Signum shares the strengths of the third generation Vectra such as the Interactive Driving System (IDS) and the latest generation electronic stability program ESPPlus.
Signum's FlexSpace seating system makes it possible to slide back each outer rear seat individually by as much as 130 millimeters with a tilt to a 30-degree angle.
Apart from the entry-level version, the new Signum will be offered with three equipment lines, "Elegance", "Sport", and "Cosmo".
Among the highlights available are the multifunctional "Travel Assistant", and optional climate-controlled multi-contour driver's seat with adjustable heating and multiple adjustment possibilities.
Starting in the summer of 2003, new swiveling bi-xenon headlamps will be available with the pioneering Adaptive Forward Lighting (AFL) system.
Aside from the numerous options available for the Signum there is also a wide choice of accessories that make traveling in the Signum even more comfortable. For example the "Free-time Package" comes with a roof rack, an innovative roof-mounted bicycle rack, a 12-liter cooler and a picnic basket.
*Recommended German price with VAT included for the entry-level model with the 1.8 ECOTEC-engine (90 kW/122 PS.)
