Start of production for the new 2.2 direct injection ECOTEC gasoline engine

Production of Opel's first direct injection gasoline unit, the 2.2 direct injection ECOTEC, has started in Opel's powertrain plant in Kaiserslautern, Germany.

This four-valve engine consumes about six percent less fuel than a conventional unit and develops eight percent more torque at low rpm. With 114 kW (155 hp), the 2.2 direct injection ECOTEC has a six percent higher power output.

The new engine will be first available in the Opel/Vauxhall Signum in May.
