Opel Corsa Eco Receives 5 Stars for Environmental Compatibility
Fuel consumption, at only 4.9 liters of gasoline per 100 kilometers, matches that of a diesel.
The Opel Corsa Eco was the only vehicle to receive the top five-star rating in the latest Eco test sponsored by the German automobile club ADAC. The test, which measured the pol-lutant and CO2 emissions of 33 of the best-selling small and compact cars in Europe, was conducted on behalf of the International Automobile Federation (FIA). The results served as the basis for rating the environmental impact of the vehicles on a scale of one star (high environmental impact) to five stars (low environmental impact). The stated intention of the Eco test is to provide consumers with information about the environmental behavior of the most popular vehicles on the market.
The Corsa Eco is the world's most economical gasoline-powered vehicle in the small car class. It requires only 4.9 liters gasoline per 100 kilometers (MVEG), a fuel consumption level comparable to that of a diesel-powered car. Its fuel-saving abilities are due mainly to the combination of a highly efficient 1.0 ECOTEC engine (43 kW/58 hp) with the automated Easytronic transmission. The Easytronic transmission's automatic mode is programmed in such a way as to ensure that the engine always operates within the most favorable fuel consumption range. More than 80,000 Corsa customers European wide have chosen the Easytronic, which is also offered with the 1.2 ECOTEC engine. The Corsa Eco, priced at 11,250 euros, costs the same as the Corsa 1.0 Easytronic and is tax-exempt in Germany until December 31, 2005.
