1,000,000th Zafira rolls off the assembly line in Bochum
The one-millionth Opel Zafira, produced at the Bochum plant where the Astra station wagon is also manufactured, rolled off the production line this week.
"The Zafira success story is important not only for Opel but also the local economy, " Jan Brems, Director of the Opel plant in Bochum said. "We are also very proud of the fact that all Zafira model variants, including the exclusive OPC and CNG versions, are built at only one facility. This would not have been possible without highly flexible production processes and qualified, committed Opel employees," he added.
The Zafira has remained immensely popular four years after its original debut, holding the number one spot in Germany since its market introduction spring 1999.
In 2002 it held a lead over its competitors of more than 53,630 units, or about 30% market share in its segment. This compact van remains a success throughout Europe as well.
Zafira orders last year totaled more than 247,950 – representing a gain over 2001 of 5.4%. In the case of the Zafira OPC and CNG versions, 7200 and about 5000 units have been delivered to date.
