GM China donates to anti-SARS campaign

GM China announced yesterday that it has made a donation valued at over RMB 2.6 million to the China Charity Federation in Beijing to help in the fight against Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS).

The donation includes RMB 1 million in cash, which will help fund the education of children of medical workers who have lost their lives fighting SARS. The donation also includes five Chevrolet Blazer SUVs from GM's Jinbei GM joint venture, which will be used by medical personnel involved in the anti-SARS campaign. In addition, GM's Shanghai GM joint venture recently donated 10 Buick GL8 executive wagons to support the anti-SARS campaign in Shanghai.

The GM China family shares the concern of the Chinese government about the impact of SARS in communities across China," said Tim Stratford, Vice Chairman and General Counsel for GM China. "We hope our donation will contribute to the eradication of SARS and improve the lives of those who have already been affected."

"We greatly appreciate the full support that GM China and its joint ventures have provided to the anti-SARS campaign," said Fan Baojun, Chairman of the China Charity Federation. "GM China's donation will go a long way toward ensuring a positive future for the children of those who have given their lives in the fight against SARS."
