New efficient Opel engines with fuel savings of up to 23%
As a part of Opel's strategy to improve the fuel efficiency of its models on a broad scale, Opel is introducing a range of newly developed ECOTEC gasoline and diesel engines. All of these new units feature state-of-the-art technology, Euro 4 emission standard, high specific power and low fuel consumption.
With the new version of the Corsa this summer, Opel will introduce two new gasoline units with the innovative TWINPORT technology and 1.0- and 1.4-liter displacement (44 kW/60 hp and 66 kW/90 hp). These new engines achieve fuel savings of up to 23% compared to the current models, depending on the transmission selected.
Opel is also celebrating the debut of the new 1.3 CDTI ECOTEC (51 kW/70 hp) in the Corsa. The smallest four-cylinder common rail turbo-diesel in the world requires only 4.5 liters of diesel per 100 kilometers thanks to its innovative Multi-Injection system.
The updated Agila also benefits from the savings potential of the 1.3 CDTI ECOTEC and the 1.0 TWINPORT ECOTEC as of this summer.
After its debut in the Signum, Opel's first gasoline direct injection unit, the powerful 2.2 DIRECT ECOTEC (114 kW/155 hp), will be offered in the new Vectra station wagon. It provides a fuel consumption savings of approximately 6% when compared to the conventional 2.2-liter manifold injection engine, while at the same time providing more torque and power.
Rita Forst, Chairman of the Management Board and the Director of Product Development at Opel Powertrain says, "Our new engines are among the best in their segments. With both our gasoline and diesel units we set out to achieve the highest fuel efficiency in everyday use, so that our customers receive noticeable benefits from these technological advances".
