Corsa tops September sales in the UK
The UK's top selling car for September is the Vauxhall Corsa. The face-lifted Vauxhall super-mini celebrated its first full month of sales by passing up the competition and out-selling the Ford Focus by 1,500 units.
At the same time Vauxhall's van range reached its own milestone: for only the second month since 1972 the company sold over 7,000 vans during September.
Saab and Daewoo both recorded volume increases over September last year. Saab's new 9-3 range helped boost its volume by 30%, while Daewoo got ready to celebrate its first anniversary in the GM fold with impressive increases for the Kalos, Nubira and Tacuma ranges.
Vauxhall's retail share of 7.6% gave the company its first second place in this important market for over a year. For the year to date only Ford is ahead. Vauxhall also leads the fleet market for the month and year to date.
Corsa and Zafira led their segments, while Astra, Vectra and Agila all held second places. Astra also took 5th place in the top ten sellers.
Sales success for Combo led the van range – number one in the Light Vans segment for the 12th consecutive month. Meanwhile the IBC-built Vivaro outsold its sister model - Renault Trafic – by more than 2:1. Again, retail sales were up, as the van range took top spot for the second time this year.
