UK 2004 sales pick up where 2003 left off

As the UK car market hit nearly 200,000 sales for January 2004, Vauxhall, Saab and Daewoo all have good news to celebrate.

For Vauxhall the year started on a similarly positive note to a strong end to 2003. Once again Vauxhall topped the fleet market, with a market share of 23.3% with the Corsa and Zafira dominating their segments at fleet.

In the list of top sellers for the month Vauxhall had three entries: Corsa 2nd, Astra 4th and Vectra returning to the list in 9th place. Overall market share was up to 13.7%, with a total of 26,993 cars.

In vans Vivaro increased sales by 44.2% to take second place in the medium van sector. Overall the company maintained a strong second place in the van market with 17.1% share. Vauxhall was first in the retail van market with 15.1% share.

For Saab, 2004 started well with an 8.1% increase in sales to 1,089 cars, boosting market share by 0.1% point to 0.6%. This was particularly impressive with the rest of the Premium Seven segment declining by 10%.
Daewoo's sales grew 28.8% to 931 units, strengthening market share by 0.1% point to hold 0.5% overall.
