GM Daewoo's global April sales totaled 77,011 units, increasing
by 108% compared with 37,025 units sold in the same month last year.
The increase is mainly due to a huge increase in exports of finished
cars and component kits for local assembly.
In Europe, preliminary April
sales results show an increase by over 75%, reaching 14,700 units, as
compared to 8,400 units in the same period
last year. April sales in Spain increased by over 48%, while in Southeast
Europe the growth rate was over 63% and reached over 89% in Austria.
Over
the first four months of the year, GM Daewoo Europe's sales rose by over
55% from 37,050 units in the same period in 2003 to 57,500 units.
Germany registered an increase of 90 % from 2,700 to 5,200 vehicles in
the first four months with successful start-up operations in Scandinavia
and especially in Turkey also contributing heavily to European growth.
In the four Scandinavian markets sales increased from 180 units to over
1,950 from January to April. In Turkey, where GM Daewoo markets its products
as Chevrolet cars, over 1,900 vehicles were sold in the first four months,
830 of them in April alone. European sales will be boosted again when
GM Daewoo launches its new range of Chevrolet cars in Poland later this
month.
GM Daewoo's global exports amounted to 67,645 units in April,
rising 194.4% from the same month last year (22,977 units). Owing to
