DTM goes east: Opel with four cars in Shanghai race

With this weekend's race, the DTM will be the first international motor sport series to hold a race in Shanghai, China. Following an invitation by the municipal government of Shanghai, Opel will participate in the one-off non-championship race with three Vectra GTS V8s and one Astra V8 Coupé.

The event includes two 30-minute races that will be held on a specially prepared street circuit in the city area of Pudong. The event is not part of the championship.

Marcel Fässler, Heinz-Harald Frentzen and Timo Scheider are going to drive the Vectra GTS V8 and Jeroen Bleekemolen the Astra V8 Coupé.

Opel's participation in the Shanghai race underlines the significance of the Asian market for GM. Last month GM announced it will invest more than US$3 billion in China over the next three years.

The races on Sunday can be seen live on the German channel ARD at 8:30 am.
