Astra elected "Fleet Car of The Year 2004" in Portugal

The Opel Astra won the most important fleet award in Portugal. The election of the "Fleet Car of The Year 2004" in Portugal is held every year by a jury of fleet specialists coming from several of the most important Portuguese companies.

The list of cars competing in this year's event, organized by LeasePlan Portugal, included a large number of compact and mid-size models that recently came to the market. The Astra was the clear winner in the two separated categories of the contest - Gasoline and Diesel. Overall, the Astra came in in front of the Renault Mégane (2nd), the Peugeot 307 (3rd) and the VW Golf (4th).

The final voting session took the jury members through a two-day period of test drives, in which dynamic driving items where evaluated in detail. Aspects that are essential for fleet operators were also taken into consideration: running costs, price, service and delivery times. These provided a sound basis for the final result achieved by Opel's most recent product in the market. The jury gave the Astra the highest scores in engine technology, handling, acceleration, noise insulation and overall driving characteristics, among other criteria.
