Opel at the Paris Motor Show: Three world premieres

Opel’s presence at the Paris Motor Show (September 25 to October 10) is highlighted by the world premieres of the new Astra GTC, the new GTC with panorama windshield and the “Astra High Performance Concept”, a design study based on the dynamic three-door model.

The new Astra GTC, available from next spring, is the most dramatic expression of the Astra’s dynamic design theme. The striking look is accentuated by a second world premiere, the innovative panorama windshield, which makes its debut in the GTC. The windshield design extends into the roof as far as the B-pillar, creating a whole new sense of space and visibility – similar to that in an airplane cockpit.

Opel’s third world premiere in Paris is the Astra High Performance Concept. The power-red design study based on the three-door model demonstrates the dynamic potential of the new compact class generation and shows the way for future Astra high-performance variants. With a striking look and a technology package designed for enthusiast drivers, the car delivers what its name promises. Just a glance at the Astra High Performance Concept’s target data confirms this: 176 kW/240 hp, maximum torque of 310 Newton meters, acceleration from zero -100 km/h in well under seven seconds and a top speed of around 240 km/h.

Further highlights at the Opel stand in Hall 1 are the new Astra station wagon and Tigra TwinTop, the Combo Outdoor leisure concept, as well as a host of technical innovations. These include the IDS Plus chassis with continuous damping control which is now available for the Vectra and Signum, and a new six-speed automatic transmission with ActiveSelect function for the 150 hp 1.9 CDTI engines in these mid-size models.

In times of high fuel prices, Opel continues its initiative to reduce fuel consumption on a broad basis with a newly developed 1.2-liter TWINPORT engine (59 kW/80 hp) for the Corsa and Agila, as well as by extending the offer of gasoline-saving TWINPORT engines and the highly efficient CDTI diesel units to additional model lines.
