Hummer H3T: Rugged Concept for a New Off-road Pickup
The name Hummer represents the elite in the off-road segment – the standard against which other off-road vehicles are measured. It is therefore logical that the Hummer H3T study for a mid-size pickup truck now being showcased in Paris (the first time in Europe) should pursue this tradition.
The ruggedly refined H3T expresses its optical kinship with the previous Hummer models in a young, very masculine manner. With a wheelbase of 3,012 mm, a length of 4,443 mm and a track of 1,892 mm, the concept car embodies the classic Hummer proportions - wide stance, low roofline, and wheels at the corners - that have made the H1 and H2 instantly recognizable around the world.
A 350-horsepower, turbocharged version of GM's new Vortec 3500 inline five-cylinder engine powers the H3T, generating 350 hp (260 kW) and a torque of 474 Nm. It is backed by an automatic four-speed transmission. The variable valve timing technology, which is available on some of GM's four-, five- and six-cylinder engines, boosts the engine's efficiency by varying valve timing, lift and duration. It also improves fuel consumption, emissions and overall performance.
The 2005 model year brings yet another expansion to the powerful HUMMER lineup with the addition of the new H2 SUT. The SUT – or Sport Utility Truck – is an innovative new body style for the H2 featuring a cargo bed in the rear that is adaptable and expandable at the touch of a button.
Now comes the H2 SUT, which offers more functionality and versatility. The passenger and cargo areas of the SUT can be configured for a variety of needs. When the vehicle needs to carry passengers in the rear seat as a conventional SUV would, the bulkhead (called the Midgate) at the rear of the passenger compartment remains upright, still providing a rear bed with more than 30 cubic feet (850L) of cargo space.
In addition, the H2 gets more power from its Vortec 6.0-L V-8 engine for 2005. Both the original H2 and the new H2 SUT will have peak power levels of 325 hp (242 kw) at 5200 rpm and 365 lb.-ft. (495 Nm) of torque at 4000 rpm.
