Saab’s highlights in Paris: 'Alcokey' concept and 1.9 TiD engine for 9-3 Sport Sedan

Saab's unique 'Alcokey' concept celebrates its public debut in Paris. Another Saab highlight is the 9-3 Sport Sedan, now available with the state-of-the-art 1.9TiD engine.

In Paris, Saab's unique 'Alcokey' concept celebrates its public debut. The ‘Alcokey’ concept includes a small mouthpiece in the car’s key fob. A transponder communicates with the car’s electronic control unit, keeping the engine immobilised if a breath sample from the driver is found to contain alcohol above the permitted level.

The Saab 9-3 Sport Sedan's widely-acclaimed, fun-to-drive chassis dynamics are now complemented by the addition of a state-of-the-art 1.9TiD engine. The combination is expected to significantly raise Saab's presence in Europe's growing diesel segment.

Delivering more performance, more refinement, lower emissions and better fuel economy, this sophisticated engine endows the 9-3 Sport Sedan range with a compelling choice in the premium diesel segment that is as attractive and competitive as its gasoline offer.

The new common-rail, direct- and multiple-injection engine is configured for 150 bhp or 120 bhp. Even more importantly, it offers a wide range of strong pulling power, with 90% of the generous maximum torque available all the way from 1,750 to 3,250 rpm. It also raises the state of the art by introducing a maintenance-free particulate filter that ensures compliance with Euro 4 emission standards, effective from January 1, 2006.

Saab Automobile's leading role in car safety was confirmed when the Saab 9-3 Convertible received five stars for occupant safety, the highest rating possible in EuroNCAP's frontal and side-impact crash tests. The result gives Saab an impressive all five-star product line-up in Europe, including the 9-3 Convertible, 9-3 Sport Sedan and the Saab 9-5.
