Traditional Rivals: Opel Astra beats new Ford Focus and VW Golf
In the latest issue of the German car magazine, Auto Zeitung, the Astra 1.9 CDTI wins a comparison test against the new Ford Focus 2.0 TDCi and the VW Golf 2.0 TDI.
The strong 1.9 CDTI diesel engine, in combination with the IDS-plus chassis, is “simply unbeatable”. “The 150 hp engine secures Astra the lead in the comparison test. The power unfolds harmoniously at all engine speeds. It offers the best acceleration and sprint power. Fuel consumption is moderate, with just 6.7 liters of diesel per 100 kilometers.”
Out of five tested categories, Astra dominated in the areas of engine/transmission, driving dynamics and environment/cost. The new Focus was rated best in the interior/space category, while the Golf dominated in the driving comfort category.
