Opel Trixx concept car and GM fuel cells scoop two prestigious awards

Already highly acclaimed in the press for its ingenuity and stylish looks, Opel’s Trixx concept took top honors in the concept car category at the Autocar awards last night. With its inflatable rear seat and pantograph doors, Trixx wowed the judges from the prestigious weekly magazine who praised its clever packaging and originality, saying it was “bursting with innovation.”

This innovation is evident in many more ways, including the incorporation of a foldaway front passenger’s seat and a luggage rack at the rear that pulls out like a drawer to carry heavy items or sports clothing which is too dirty to travel inside.

And the good news doesn’t stop there... GM took to the winners’ podium for a second time during the evening to collect the technology award for the outstanding progress the company has made with fuel cells.

This year has seen GM making huge strides in fuel cell technology, illustrated both by the successful Fuel Cell Marathon, which saw the Opel Zafira–based HydroGen3 driving across Europe from North Cape to Lisbon, covering 9,696 km in just 38 days. The company recently announced that it will replace its ground-breaking Hy-wire with an even more advanced and innovative concept in the new year.
