Chevrolet launches new vehicle range in Russia

Last weekend, a new range of small and mid-size Chevrolet cars went on sale at selected retailers across Russia. The introduction of the new Chevrolet passenger cars follows the announcement made in September to grow Chevrolet as General Motors' (GM) affordable entry brand in all European markets.

Russian customers were able to test-drive the sub-compact Chevrolet Aveo (called Kalos in some European markets), the compact Chevrolet Lacetti (sold as Lacetti and Nubira in some European markets) and the mid-size Evanda, which premiered at the recent “Auto+Automekanika” motor show in St. Petersburg.

The complete Russian Chevrolet range will be sold through a dealer network, which now consists of 85 retailers across 55 regions. The three new car lines complement the Russian-built Chevrolet Niva (SUV) and Viva (based on the old Astra), as well as the Tahoe and TrailBlazer already sold in Russia. In 2003, Chevrolet sold a total of over 22,000 vehicles in Russia. This year, sales are expected to reach around 50,000 units, with continued growth forecast for 2005. In addition to Chevrolet, GM markets Opel, Saab, Cadillac and Hummer in Russia, where the company has been active since 1992.
