Nicola Larini joins the Chevrolet Europe Racing team

Chevrolet Europe has signed Nicola Larini as another experienced driver for its 2005 World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) campaign. The 40-year-old Italian participated in more than 30 Formula 1 and many touring car races during his successful career that led to two championship titles, one in the DTM (Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft - 1993) and the other in the Italian Superturismo championship (1992). Between 2001 and 2003, Larini won eight races in the European Touring Car Championship (ETTC) that will become the WTCC in 2005.

"I just could not miss the opportunity to join a world-renowned brand like Chevrolet which has a long record of wins on tracks from Indianapolis to Le Mans", says Larini. "Chevrolet is entering the new World Championships at a time when the latter will be even more competitive with the new brands joining. I am extremely focused on this challenge and I am sure that my experience as a developmental driver will be an asset for this program".

Chevrolet will compete in the WTCC with three Lacettis prepared by U.K.-based Ray Mallock Ltd. For the first time, the WTCC will be run in 10 countries in Europe and Latin America as well as in China.
