Opel Astra wins "Auto1" award in Portugal

The Opel Astra has been elected "Auto 1 Car Of The Year" in Portugal by the readers of "Auto Foco", one of the country's leading motoring magazines and a sister publication of the German magazine, "Auto Bild".

With this result, the Astra becomes one of the finalists to the pan-european "Auto1" election, which is organized every year by "Auto Bild" and the group's European publications. The European winner will be announced at the Geneva Motor Show.

Auto Bild's "Auto1" is one of the most prestigious automotive awards in Europe, as it sums up the votes of readers, editors, racing drivers and engineers from a total of 21 European countries.

The Astra also made it to the final round of the "Portuguese Car of The Year". Opel Astra, Citroen C4, Mitsubishi Colt, Peugeot 407, Renault Modus and Skoda Octavia are the six finalists selected this week by a jury of motoring journalists from 22 publications. The winner will be announced in January 2005.
