Zafira 1.6 CNG tops sales of alternative-propulsion vehicles in Germany
In 2004, the Zafira 1.6 CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) was the bestseller among cars with alternative propulsion in Germany. Opel sold 3,300 CNG cars in Germany, far more than any other competitor.
In a recent crash test conducted by Germany's largest automobile association ADAC, the Zafira 1.6 CNG proved that it meets all safety requirements. The Zafira 1.6 CNG completed the frontal collision at 64 km/h without any problems. The gas tanks as well as all connecting pieces remained intact. In a simulated fire, the ADAC found that there is no danger of explosion.
With the Zafira 1.6 CNG and the Astra 1.6 CNG station wagon Opel was able to maintain its leading role in the segment of natural-gas-powered vehicles. As in the previous year, Opel's share in the German market of alternative-propulsion vehicles remains at 60 percent. The Combo 1.6 CNG will be added to the line-up in May.
