Astra now also “Down Under”
The next chapter of the Opel Astra success story is beginning. Following the five-door model, the station wagon and sporty GTC are now being introduced into Australia and New Zealand. This means the entire range of this European compact model is now available “down under”. The cars will be sold under the brand name Holden, the GM group member company in Australia.
“Even in Australia, where larger, rear-wheel drive cars are traditionally preferred, we see growing demand for dynamic, compact and economical cars,” says Holden’s Marketing Director, John Elsworth. “Reaction to the Astra is excellent, with trade press and customers praising its design, sporty driving behaviour and versatility.” For the new model, Holden expects sales of approximately 16,000 units in the first full year of sales.
The Astra continues along its path, which began in spring 2004 and took it over the 500,000 units production mark this month.
