GM at Los Angeles Auto Show: Fun, Function and Fuel Efficiency
GM starts 2006 with the introduction of a variety of vehicles at the Greater Los Angeles Auto Show (January 6 -15, 2006), demonstrating our continued commitment to using advanced technology resources to increase fuel efficiency and reduce fuel use in fun-to-drive vehicles. Introductions include the newly designed Chevrolet Aveo, the Pontiac Solstice GXP performance roadster, the all-new Chevrolet Suburban and GMC Yukon XL full-size SUVs plus ethanol-powered versions of the Saab 9-5.
Chevrolet
The newly designed Chevrolet Aveo that had its European premiere at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2005 represents the North American debut of Chevrolet's global face, and is part of Chevrolet's strategy to grow sales across the globe. The redesign of the entry-level car in the US strengthens Chevrolet's position in one of the world’s most popular automobile segments.
The all-new Suburban is Chevrolet’s flagship SUV and is built on GM’s brand-new full-size SUV platform, which combines advanced fuel-saving technologies like displacement on demand, called Active Fuel Management™, and further aerodynamic enhancements to provide excellent fuel economy. Some versions of the 5.3L V-8 are capable of running on any combination of conventional gasoline and ethanol (E85); in fact, GM is an industry leader in the development and sales of E85-capable vehicles.
Saab
In addition GM presents the 2.3-liter turbocharged Saab 9-5 Aero BioPower Concept, which is powered by bio-ethanol (E85), a renewable and sustainable fuel. The concept car delivers almost 20 percent more maximum power (310 hp vs. 260 hp) and 25 percent more torque (440 Nm vs. 350 Nm) than its gasoline equivalent. Saab USA plans to eventually debut BioPower models in its 9-3 Sport Sedan, SportCombi and convertible ranges.
Pontiac
Pontiac introduces the 2007 Solstice GXP, a performance version of its popular Solstice roadster. Solstice GXP is powered by the all-new Ecotec 2.0-liter turbo with direct injection, delivering about 260 horsepower (194 kW) and 353 Nm of torque. The Solstice will debut on the American market in the summer.
